Alice, I only just learned about Samuel being one of my line of Cobley's a few months ago. Samuel's parents were Matthew Cobley and Elizabeth Gibbons or Givens. They lived in Bedwas and Van, Caerphilly, Glamorgan, Wales. I have a photo of them and of their graves. Their children were, William Cobley b. 1849,Wales Thomas Cobley (my gt. grandpa)b.1851 Wales, d. 1923 CO.USA, Lydia b.1853 W., Charles b. 2-1855 W. d.12-1855 W., Charles b. 1859 W.d. 1909 Western Australia,John b.1861 W. d.MI,USA, Mary A. b.1864 W., Matthew b. 1865 W., d. 1900 Australia, Catherine b.1868 W. and I believe Samuel was the youngest of this family.
I do have photos of my gt. grandfather Thomas and of Charles who emigrated to W.Au.
I belong to a Yahoo group that researches the Cobley name and if you would like I can send you an invite to join. The group has been quiet lately but we always welcome new members. Usually a new member posting info. will get the group talking again. I also have two websites that I can send you if you email me at jodi361@sbcglobal.net there is quite a bit of info going back farther than Matthew on these sites thanks to Gerald Cobley of Caerphilly, Wales. Samuel's grandfather was named Thomas Cobley and he was born in Pensford, Somerset, England abt. 1803.
I would love to make contact with your friend who is related to Samuel. Hope to hear from you soon.
