Descendants of Maria "Mary" Elizabeth Coble

Generation No. 1

1. MARIA "MARY" ELIZABETH COBLE, Daughter of ANTONIUS "ANTHONY" Coble and Anna Maria (Amick) Emig, was born Oct 17, 1743 in York Co., PA1, and died Dec 18, 1811 in Stokes Co., NC. She married PETER SMITH ABT 1770.

Notes for MARIA "MARY" ELIZABETH COBLE:
In the will of Anthony Coble dated 24 May, 1794, Maria Elizabeth is listed as "Lisabeth Smith". In "Marriage and Death Notices, Raleigh Newspapers 1796 - 1826" lists Elizabeth Smith's death.

Notes for PETER SMITH:
In the book on "Hinson and Related Families" 1986 by William Ashley Hinson, Peter Smith (Schmidt) born in 1740 resided in Holland - were called dark skinned Dutch, because they mixed with the Spanish. Left Rotterdam, Holland and sailed to America. Docked in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1754. Peter's wife was listed as Maria Elizabeth Kobel, daughter of Anthony Kobel and Anna Maria Emig.
Another record by Ray Von Hole in The Heritage of Stokes County said Pieter Schmidt arrived in Philadelphia from Rotterdam in September 1754. He was apparently a native of Lorraine, a Territory of Netherlandish, German and French nationalities and long under Spanish rule. At an unknown date the name was anglicized to Peter Smith. His birth date was listed as 1740 and death as 1813.
These Smith's were apparently Germans who went to a Lutheran Church, married other Germans, and loved land. With John's land lying on Pole Cat Creek, and the later family attending a Methodist Church.
