Jan. 10, 1920 - July 8, 2004 Charles Edward Cobb died Thursday following a lengthy illness. Following his baptism at the age of 12, his heart's desire was to be a gospel preacher. At the age of 16, he began his ministry at the Stoney Point Church of Christ in Florence. His preaching career included serving in the ministry for Churches of Christ in Alabama, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee. His first work as the minister for the Broad Street Church of Christ in Scottsboro was from July 1944 until January 1947. He returned to Scottsboro in August 1966 and was the full-time minister for the Broad Street congregation until January 1985. He spent the next 17 years preaching and teaching the Bible for the Larkinsville Church of Christ. A work very dear to his heart was as editor and publisher of a monthly gospel paper, "The Tennessee Valley Christian." The work and outreach of this little paper quickly spread beyond any initial hopes and dreams. Through the years, Bro. Cobb also published numerous gospel tracts, several commentaries and a number of books. In April 1998, he was proclaimed "Citizen of the Year" through joint efforts of the Scottsboro Chamber of Commerce and the Daily Sentinel. He is survived by his wife, Charlene B. Cobb; mother-in-law, Vera Barnes; sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Jean Cobb, Mike and Donna Cobb, and Jim and Robin Cobb; daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and Charlie White and Becky Knutson; brother and sister-in-law, James E. "Bo" and Peggy Cobb. He was preceded in death by his first wife, who was the mother of his children, Pauline Rowden Cobb; parents, R.E. and Myrtle Pounders Cobb; a sister and brother-in-law, Eula and Albert Lambert; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Helen Cobb; special cousins, Clarence Blankenship and Grace Blankenship.
