Ms taber,

I have used Isaac Cobb's "Cobb Genealogy" [aka "History and Genealogy of the Cobb Family in New England"] but do not recall the details of a second marriage or date of death for Sarah (Fernald) Cobb. It is possible given a second marriage and possibly a death after a child's birth. However, I have no further info on her or her second marriage.

The book did list four children by her marriage to Ebenezer Cobb, son of Isaac Cobb. There was a notation "Benjamin B. Cobb was born in January 02, 1827, Portland, ME" .. he died thinking they were his parents, ....On his death certificate it states his parents were Sarah Fernald of Cape Elizabeth and Ebenezer Cobb."
Yet Benjamin B. Cobb is not listed or is questionable if a child (as I have not linked him to the family based on the above) per the book by Isaac Cobb - was he adopted? For Benjamin B. Cobb (1827 - 1893), he is found in the census in Maine in 1860 and 1870 having had two different wives in each census.

By his two marriages with four children each (2 sons and 6 daughters total - perhaps more?) he named none for his father or himself but had a daughter from his second marriage as Sarah, but that was the first name of his second wife then. It can't directly connect him to having verified Sarah Fernald was his mother.

More data needs to be found for Sarah Fernald by records and connections from a living descendant. If her connected family can be found, mtDNA testing of a living descendant as well as Y-DNA testing of any male descendant of one of her 2 sons (if a descendant exists)and of Benjamin B. Cobb's sons would settle this one issue.

I hope someone else has found more to help you or can add something else to this family.

Regards,
Paul Cobb,
File Manager, Barnstable and Boston lines (a work in progress always)
