I also am doing research on this family.I have Mary(Bateman) and Joseph Cobb in Muskingum co. Ohio in 1820-1830 then in 1840-1860 in Washington Co. I was looking in some Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Muskingum County, Ohio Chapter XXXVIII-Washington Twp. and in it I saw this about that family.I am sure it is the write family.
The Baptist church was formed from the Baptist church in Salem Twp.Many of the Washington twp. members, finding it inconvenient to attend church in Salem twp in 1842, petitioned the Baptist church in Salem Twp permission to organize a church in this twp.The petition granted, and now association formed, the next year built and dedicated a church, under the pasturage of Rev. William Sedgwick, They soon organized a Sunday school, which proved a great aid to the church. As the signers to the petition to the Salem church may be considered the founders of a new church, we give their names as follows: William H. Barstow, A.J.Woodruff Sr., Robert Combs, Amy Presgrave, James Miller, A. H. Woodruff Jr., Elga Combs, Mary Leach, Mary Cobb (this is Josephs wife)Harriet Bateman (perhaps her mother.) Elizabeth Mears, Sarah Callihan, Willis Barstow, William Leach, Penrod Bateman, Elizabeth Bateman, and John Bateman, Semote Menifee, Jacob Slack, Hosea Woodruff, Margaret Ferrell, Ami P. Hunter, Peter Mears, Samuel Barstow Jr., Martha Woodruff, George Barstow, Mary Bailant, Mary A. Michael, Mary Barstow, Elizabeth Zett and Ann Hickman, Mary J. Dunmead, William Mears, Mary Martin, Brittania Presgrage, George Presgrave.
Thought this was very interesting and wanted to share it with you.If you have anything you can share about Joseph and Mary I would take it all.I have nothing much and would be willing to share it with [email protected] Kathy
