Samuel Cobb md Azubah Newton, 1787, Princeton, MA

Samuel Cobb, b. abt 1761 (or earlier?), from Rutland, Mass. (supposedly, not born there but marriage intention there) married Azubah Newton, 31 Oct. 1787 in Princeton, Worcester Co., Mass. They had 11 children (8 known to have married, other 3 marriage status unknown) before he died 12 Sept 1810 (she later re-married, had one more child). Do note one child of this marriage was listed a McCobb in Rutland's marriage record but other records have her name as Cobb as well as the rest of the family. Rutland has Cobb and McCobb as if one and the same with some other Cobb names.

No ancestry was known of Samuel Cobb except he may have come to that part of Rutland which became Princeton. This history came from the "History of the Town of Princeton in the County of Worcester ..." as written by Francis E. Blake and published in 1915. He had written on the Cobb family in the Genealogies with three of Samuel and Azubah Cobb's sons furthered. Of the expanded family, only two (Elias Hull Cobb and Moses Hull Cobb) had children listed. Not expanded, three of his children (Nancy, Ezra and George W.) were found to have ended up in Maine and married (not in the book) and little further record found.

A Martha "Patty" Cobb married William Gibbs in Princeton, in 1788. Also there was a Jemima Cobb who married Amos Clark in 1789 in neighboring Hubbardstown (marriage intentions filed in Rutland, Mass.). These two are not linked yet to any Cobb family yet or to any particular tree but may have been sisters or relatives of this Samuel Cobb by proximity in area and date.

Has anyone learned of or have found any connection to place these Cobb members in a known family line (Barnstable, Boston or Taunton)? No connection had been made before nor known now but I hope someone has some link to place any one of these or has further descendants of this family. Locating someone current from this family line of Samuel Cobb for a DNA test would be wonderful but a long shot since there is no further info than the early-mid 1800's for his line (unless the families in Maine can be traced further).

Thanks,
Paul Cobb
(not a descendant of this Samuel Cobb but just trying to add these members to a known line, if connected and possible)
