The following is a reply I've just posted to Kelly Stalnaker's of 12/14/06. I thought I'd also post it as a new post so that it doesn't get lost in the noise. It may be of interest to others researching the early Cobbs of WV.

Only just seen your post re Dr. William Cobb and wondered whether you'd got any further with tracing his parents. I'm English, living in England, and am related to an old English Cobb(e) family. My interest in Dr. William Cobb stems from the fact that one of his descendants in America was a Hewett (Hughett) Cobb b. Jun 30 1800 Kanawha Co WV. Now it may just be coincidence, but "Hewett" was a favoured first name for boys in my Cobb family for over 100 years (I believe the name originated from Mary Hewett who married my 6 x Great Grandfather William Cobb c1719).
