Hi,
I am currently researching my son-in-laws family which has led me to his ancestor "Leo Cobb", found in the home of Benjamin Cobb in 1870, Randolph Co., GA.
Benjamin's presumed wife on this census was shown as "Mary F., age 37) and they had 9 total children in the home between the ages of 3 months and age 17. I am not certain if all these children (especially the older ones) are the children of both of them,or if some belonged to each and some were theirs together or if some are perhaps even, the younger siblings to this Benjamin.
I question this because:
The only Benjamin Cobb I can find in 1860 who appears to fit the profile of the one found in 1870 was a "B.F. Cobb" age 26 (b.c1834) in Randolph Co. GA., but his wife at this time is shown as "Cynthia J." age 20 and they have 3 children in the home as well as an 18 yr. old farm hand named R.S. Cobb (a likely younger brother to B.F.). The problem is that both the wife and the children of this B. F. Cobb are not even a close fit to the wife or children of Benjamin Cobb of 1870 Randolph Co. ,GA.
Benjamin Cobb, father to "Leo" was shown in 1870 as age 35 (b.c1835) born in GA.By-passing the 1860 census which is confusing....
I found a Benjamin F. Cobb, age 16 (b.c1834) in the home of Benjamin Cobb b.c1798 with wife Charity in Randolph Co., GA., in 1850. Among the siblings of Benjamin Jr., is his younger presumed brother, "Alfred" age 2 (I think)in home. This is I presume, your Alfred.
I feel pretty confident that "Leo Cobb", son of the Benjamin Cobb I found in Randolph Co., GA., in 1870 is my son-in-law's ancestor, and would like to confirm the parents of this Benjamin Cobb, b.c1835 in GA., and to figure out if this was him in 1860 Randolph Co., GA. I would also like to understand if this was him, if he was first married to Cynthia, then 2nd to Mary F., and if so, which children on the 1870 census were his, hers or theirs...and when did he marry Mary F.?
Leo Cobb was in Robertson Co. ,TX., by 1900 and married to Emma ? They had 4 children at this time, ages 5 to under 1. They had been married for 6 years. They were still in Robertson Co., in 1910 &later moved to Madison Co., TX., by 1920.
Thank you for any information on this Cobb family!
