1850 census Dooly county GA
After obtaining a book with the actual census images for 1850 Dooly Co GA, I believe I have found my James Cobb and Reading (Reddin, Redden) Cobb. I looked there because I knew my Dupree and Cross line came from there. My Dupree line married my Cross line and then my Cross line married into my Cobb line. Anyway, I found my Dupree's and my Cross'. Not too far away, I found Reading Cobb , 37, born in NC. His wifes name was Elisabeth (she fits in with the grave I found near my gr grandfather's grave). In the household was David, 9, Winaford,7, Alexander, 4, Elisabeth,3, and James K.,1. I think that this James is mine. Not too far from him is Wiley cobb and Winaford. I wonder if they are his parents. I believe that my line came from either Pitt Co or Sampson Co NC. Now to prove it.
Family stories say that they moved to alabama after the civil war. I found a homestead certificate for a James K.P. Cobb in Geneva Co Ala for 1896. When I looked up the tract, it is the same land that David Twiggs Cobb, my gr grandfather is later living on. It is very near John W. Cross land, another of my ancestors. Too much to be a coincidence . What I havent found out is exactly when they migrated and did they go straight to Geneva Co AL. Also, who did James K. Cobb marry. Also, who is the indian that my mother keeps insisting that one of them married. Ann, or anyone, got any suggestions? I have found some likely candidates in NC. I would like more info on this huge gap from 1850 census to land certificate in 1896.
