I am thinking you may have two different William Cobbs confused in the marriages of these two women.I have the following information in my files:
William Benjamin Cobb, b. 1723, in Isle of Wight Co., VA; d. bet. Sept-Nov. 1802, Knox Co., TN; married Bathsheba Whitehead in 1745, NC; I have no further information on her.Sources:Gayle Cowley; [email protected] Atkinson; [email protected]"Southern Historical Families" by John Bennett Boddie, p. 183
William Cobb, b. 1730, Craven Co., NC; d. abt 1809, Knox Co., TN; married Sarah Stancil in 1755, Dobbs Co., NC; she was born abt. 1735 & d. 1799, NC.Sources:Martha Pranter; [email protected] Price, 426 W. Main St., Rogersville, TN
I believe thse are two separate couples, even though the dates are close.Wm Cobb who married Sarah Stancil did have a sister, Mary, who indeed married Henry Massengill, whose descendants run Rocky Mount, TN.
If you make a connection through one of these Williams, I can lead you back to Joseph Cobb, the immigrant, who came to Jamestown in 1613. I have received so many shared files, and I am willing to also share.
I trust I have not mislead you, or anyone else, with this information.I am always willing to receive correction.Grace and peace.<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><<><
