BettyJo,
Renderson Cobb is my husband's great-grandfather. He was a Confederate Veteran which is how we knew his county of birth. He left NC and moved into Georgia about 1850. Have seen a reference to him as a farmer working for someone else in 1850. He went to Sumter County, Georgia by 1859, where he married Elizabeth Salter, a daughter of James Salter and Elizabeth Ross. They are consistently on the US Census there, until
Elizabeth died about 1900, after that census.
We have the pension records for Renderson Cobb in Sumter and Terrell Counties, Ga., but are not able to determine his NC ancestry. Is there any further data you have unearthed regarding Renderson? The name itself is most unusual. I see the other unusual names in the early records of NC and wonder if they just did it to honor neighbors or close kin. Hope you will be able to help!
