Since at least three of the major Cobb family groups that immigrated to the US, ended up with branches in Lincoln Co, NC, keeping them sorted out is a challenge. I have started compiling a separate database just on the Cobbs of LCNC, as a special project.
Concerning the Cobb-Costner marriage and her parentage. I may not have it the same way as others that are researching this line, but here is what I have. Martha was born 8/16/1849 in LC; died 9-4-1925 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co, NC; bur at Lowell, Gaston Co, NC.
Martha was the daughter of William Cobb (Jr.)and wife #1 Martha Harmon. Wm born abt 1804 in LC; died aft 1880 in Cleveland Co, NC. Martha born abt 1809 in LC; died 9-13-1868 in Cleveland Co; d/o John Harmon and Martha Hovis.
William was the son of William Cobb (Sr.) and XXX (Abernathy ??), who married 8/7/1787 in LC. William born abt 1765 Halifax Co, VA and died bef 7/1833 in MO.
William, Sr. was the son of Ambrose Cobb and Sarah XXX. Ambrose born abt 1729 in York Co, VA and died in LC between June 1797 and November 1799. Sarah died several years later in LC.
