I had copied this at my local libraary from the WV reading room to see if it tied into my family which it did not, since it applies to the above posting I thought I would post it to also see if it would help:Augustus Cobb was born in 1823 in Rockingham County NC. His parents were Mathew and Mary (North) Cobb. The first mentioned was a native of England born in 1791 and was one of four brothers who emigrated from the old county to Virginia in 1816. John went to Maryland Noah to Georgia, one settled in Virginia and Mathew tried his fortunes in North Carolina in which state he lived and died. Mathew Cobb and Mary North were married in 1809 and their children were, Pleasant, Leroy M., Elizabeth, Robert L., Augustus and Martha. The subject of our sketch, remaiend with his father until the ago of sixteen, kand then spent two years in traveling in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Missouri. After his wanderings, he finally landed in Mason County WV., in 1845 and located at Hanley's Landing, where he followed a tailoring for five years. Subsequently, he settled on a farm where he now resides. He was married June, 1847 to Rhoda Frances Elmore, daughter of William Elmore. Their children's names are as follows: Lavinia, Nancy, Ellen, Louis F., Emirilus, John W., Richard B.,Mary T.,William E., George R., and Lizzie M.,In 1872, Mr. Cobb was elected as one of the supervisors of the county, which office he filled satisfactorily.Mr. Cobb has been a very extensive fruit dealer and enjoys considerable local fame in that interesting deparment of agriculture. The famous Rome Beauty apple orginiated in Lawrence County, Ohio and Mr. Cobb took the premium on his exhibit of those apples at the fair held in that county.
I apologize I did not copy the title page but as soon as I go back I will do so and post below this message. But from the content it must have been while Augustus was still alive so I would guess around the late 1800's-early 1900's.
