Hiring someone who speaks German is one means. Reading it (Gothic script) was a difficulty for me. Learning it may be possible. It may be like the New Netherlander Dutch records of the the Reformed Dutch Church; once you learn some basics like, 'j. dam.' = young lady, or spinster you may be able to handle records.
At one time I was trying to locate information on German Heraldry (which is why I was aware of the present practice) and made use of the 'translate this page' feature of Google. The translation wasn't always as accurate as one likes (syntax variations), but understandable. If you are researching on-line, this might be an approach. You might even try going to a site or page more than once to see if the translation alters, giving variations.
