Thanks for that suggestion, Jason. I've had some exchange with that Office and they have been quite helpful, stating that the Mecham Arms of 1811 were a Confirmation, indicating they had been in use for some time. But I've had no luck identifying any similar ones. That's the full Coat of Arms - my posting referred just to the crest. In case you are unaware, there is a very good internet archive with many heraldry book online at:

As the Mecham Arms were recognised in Ireland and the family line probably came from England, finding earlier useage would be most useful for establishing origins.
