Hi Gilbert,

In order to discover whether or not your Criste ancestors have a coat-of-arms, then you would have to go back to your earliest ancestor and find out if he was bestowed a coat-of-arms.

As you may be aware, individuals are bestowed a coat-of-arms, which usually descend in the direct male line from the earliest armigerous ancestor.

There is no such thing as a "family coat-of-arms." However, individuals from the same family can have differenced coats-of-arms, but coat-of-arms are never referred to as "family coat-of-arms" simply because that infers that an entire family has a coat-of-arms, when in reality, coats-of-arms usually go directly in the male line; although, women can have their own coats-of-arms, and they are known as heraldic heiresses.

An example of a modern-day heraldic heiress is the premiere Lady Mar, titular Countess of Mar, who has a coat-of-arms in her own right. She's a Scottish aristocrat.

I hope this helps to clarify the mysteries surrounding common parlance of coat-of-arms language.

Good luck with your search!

Cyndi's List is an excellent website that can help you locate your Philippines ancestor.

Her website is as follows:

I hope this helps!

Merry Christmas,

Jason Simmons
