The blazon for the Arms displayed is;

“Ermine on a chevron Gules between three anchors Sable as many escallops Argent.”

I fear that the image displayed is from a “bucket shop” for two reasons. Firstly, there is no crest upon the helm and secondly, the name “Taylor” in place of a motto.

Burke’s General Armory lists these Arms as those of Taylor of Durant Hall, Derbyshire. The heiress married Sir Charles Skrymsher in the time of Charles II. That might mean that the male heraldic line died out. GENUKI HAS;

“In the year 1637 Durant Alsop and Thomas Alsop sold the manor of Tapton and Durant-hall to George Taylor, Esq. Sir Charles Scrimshire, the heir of Mr. Taylor, sold the estate to….”

and

“In the year 1678 Charles Scrimshire, Esq., of Norbury in Staffordshire, (afterwards Sir Charles), built an alms-house for six poor women, pursuant to the will of George Taylor, Esq., of Durant-hall, who died in 1668,…”

The Harleian Society’s “Grantees of Arms” notes a George Taylor JP of Chesterfield was granted Arms in 1662. (Durant Hall is near Chesterfield.). In normal circumstances, to lawfully use Arms you would have to show legitimate descent, in the male line, from the original grantee. However, in this case it would appear that the original grantee died without male issue. The only way to be truly sure is to contact the College of Arms in London.

Yours aye

Stephen
