I have read that Wm. Musgrave married Isobel Martindale and took her last name because she had money and property. Now I have read a letter saying Wm. did not take the name Wm. Martindale, but according to custom he did "quarter" the Martindale Coal of Arms in his coat of arms. What exactly does that mean? If he did not take her name, how did my ancestors become Martindales and not Musgraves? Diana
