Hello all, I am very new to heraldy and have no idea what the symbols on the crest mean. During a recent visit to Tipperary, Ireland I was shown an old tea cup which supposedly has the crest of the Irish Perry family of Newcastle, Co. Tipperary, This is not a complete coat of arms but just an animal with a crown around it's neck, a striped band at the bottom of the neck and 3 pears in it's mouth (which is always on the Perry coat of arms.) The animal sort of looks like a horse but the ears appear longer and thiner and the stripe at the bottom is gold & red striped. This crest is very different from the English Perry crest and I have been told that the family must have had some title to have the crown around the animal's neck. The family were gentry in the area but as far as we know they had no title which makes this a mystery. Is there any expert out there that can help me decipher this crest or is there perhaps a place where family crests were applied for and issued that would have records of this on file? I can't give an exact date but these Perrys settled in Tipperary in 1658 and this could have been applied for anytime in the following 200 years. Any help would be very much appreciated and I also have a photo of this if anyone would like to see it. Thank-you very much, Karen Notify Administrator about this message?
