I have been away from this Forum for some time- so re-posting my interests. I am interested in a Coates family from Hudswell in Swaledale in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The earliest name I have is Raph Coates who was buried in Hudswell in 1661. The line continues through 5 generations in Hudswell to William bp 1793 who married Ann Bland at Stanwick St John in 1830 and their children were John 1832, Jane Ann 1835, William 1837, Elizabeth 1839, Michael 1841, James 1844, Maria Ellen 1850. The family moved from Aldbrough to Newsham to Gilling / Gatherley Moor in Yorkshire, and then from Bishop Auckland to Helmington Row to Crook in County Durham. After William died in 1857, John moved to Richmond, North Yorks, William to Woodland in Durham and James to Burnley in Lancashire. Only Michael settled in Crook.
