I believe our Cyrus Coats/Coates was born in Niagara Co. about 1785-1790. I got his and his wife, Phoebe's names from their son Phillip's death registration in Antrim Co., Michigan.
I do know that there was a Zebulon Coates who married Mary Dowling and that they had a child named Cyrus born roughly 1790 also in the Niagara Co., NY area.
My theory is that the two Cyrus' are the same person, but I have no proof whatsoever.
If we do make the connection to Zebulon, then the rest is easy. His ancestry has been documented in a book about Robert Coats Sr. who was born about 1625 in England, and was in Lynn, MA by about 1650.
