Have just learned that Penelope Durham was born Penelope Coates. She married John (Maybe William middle name) Durham in NC, and moved to GA abt. 1816. They had many children - Westley, Mary (Polly), Howard, John, Elizabeth (Betsy), Ann, Hardy Edward, John William, and maybe more. I am a ggg grandson of this couple and have much info on the Durham line, but nothing on the parents of Penelope. Does anyone have a clue about names of her parents. They may have lived in the Smithfield, NC area before moving to Georgia. Also, Coates may have been spelled Coats.
