Moses Coates, Samuel Coates, Amos Coates

Coatesville was laid out by Moses Coates (3.), who was also the first postmaster in 1812 according to a 1906 Genealogy by Truman Coates, MD. Here is one 10 generation branch of the Coates tree that passes through Coatesville:
1. Moses Coates and Susan Weldon of Ballycater, County of Caterloe, Ireland emigrated to PA in 1717, 2. Samuel Coates (b. June 5, 1718) and Elizabeth Mendenhall 3. Moses Coates (b. Nov. 11, 1746) and (2nd wife) Mary Knight Vickers. 4. Amos Coates (b. Jan 18, 1794) and Jane B. (Norris) Coates (b. March 23,1800) who married in PA and had 12 children. They moved to Stark Co, Ohio in 1823. 5. Moses Clark Coates, (b. August 30, 1819 in Coatesville, PA-d. Nov. 19, 1912 in Havensville, KS) and Mary Ann Palmer who married Mar. 9, 1843 had 4
children. 6. William Conley Coates (b. March 31, 1844 in Camden, Kent Co. Deleware) and Alpha Susannah Yambert married on October 2, 1864. They had eleven children. 7. Edward Moses Coates (my grandfather) married Cora Victoria Newman in Havensville Kansas. They had 4 children 8. Rosa Elizabeth Coates (my mother) m. John Hallick (my father)
