I am trying to make the connection to the Coates in England still. All I know is my father says that his father John Coates was born Hollingsclough. My Grandfather did not have a middle name makes it hard to find. When I went to England, we took a drive over and looked for records and found that records showed a Coates town. We drove over to the Hollingsclough and meet a lady. She took us to her home, and showed us all around the area. If I recall that was the town of Hanley, we meet the man who was about 102 years old and took care of the grave-yard. Very sharp and still getting around. He showed us a book that listed all of the people that where buried at the grave-yard which he had. We video taped our trip and recorded pages from this book that listed lots of Coates for our records.

The following are my family history records:
James Coates m. Mathilda Palden Newton (James Coates died a couple years after coming to America Ogden Utah from England and lost family ties.) I have the birth record for Matilda Paulden as 3 April 1860 born in Hanley.
