Yes, Robert , the Thomas Coates you have in your database is the Thomas buried at Smith Creek. This Thomas was christened at Felixkirk, near Thirlby, in 1741 and died in Smith Creek in 1813. He, with wife Ann and daughter Mary, emigrated to the Tantramar area of Nova Scotia in 1772. They were part of group of 1000 emigrants from Yorkshire during 1772-1775.

After Mary, Thomas and Ann had 5 more children: Robert, James, Hannah, Sarah and Jane. Ann died in 1780 and Thomas married Elizabeth Henry. They had the following children: John, Ann, Lemuel, Margaret, Matthew, William, Alice, Thomas and George.
I have data on the descendants of William D. Coates, son of Matthew, but nothing on the others. However, I am aware that other Coates researchers have data on the other families.

So far, we have established that Thomas' father was also Thomas and that his grandfather may have been Robert, but that's as far as we can get. As yet, we have not discovered any connection with the Hilton Coates or with any other Coates in other parts of Yorkshire.

I have a jpeg photo of Thomas' stone in Smith Creek and of a photo of a painting of Thomas' house which still stands in Thirlby.

I was born in Havelock, NB. My mother was the daughter of Daniel Coates of Corn Hill. Many descendants of Matthew Coates lived in the Corn Hill area.
