JoAnne......saw your note from 10/06/2005......which is my birthday by the way.

This could be interesting.......we have been trying to link James Alexander Coan back to SC without much real luck. We think that he was born in 1824 in NC, and that his father's name might have been Alexander Coan.

We know that James Alexander Coan and his wife, Elizabeth J. Williams, are buried in Tallapoosa County, AL. He came back from the Civil War in 1864 in very sad shape. Within the year, James Alexander and his wife died.........leaving the children ophans. Several families in the area took them in, and most of the siblings married into those families. My great, great grandfather, James Percival Coan (b. 1853), was the 5th child of eight and came with lots of his Coan, Golden, Rodgers bunch to Texas in 1904. They settled in DeLeon, TX, and I have four generations buried there.

I would be very interested in sharing notes about how you get us back to the parents of James Alexander Coan or Elizabeth Williams in NC, SC or VA.
