I've located 2 opera houses in Cripple Creek at turn of the century. The first is the Grand Opera House. It was located at 3rd and Meyers. I couldn't find out anything about it, but it hasn't existed for at least 20 years - 1st time I visited Cripple Creek.

The 2nd is the Butte Opera House. The building is still there, with the first floor being the fire department and a renovated Butte on the second floor.

You might want to contact one of the Mackin family (Butte board list follows). They've been in Cripple Creek area for years and owned the Imperial Hotel. Also, the Lays have owned the Palace Hotel for years (it was a stage stop during early days.)

The Butte Opera House Foundation has been formed to support community events at the theater. Board members are Chuck Bishop, Danielle Hathaway, Bob Jeffries, Martin Lays, Steve & Bonnie Mackin and Butch Ward. For information on how to donate to the Butte Opera House Foundation, contact Manager Stacy Mackin at 689-6402.
