The sister named in the obituary, Mrs. Clara "Wirtz," should be Mirtz and is actually Harry Wallace's half-sister, Clara Josephine Fairman.
Harry's mother, Emma Jane Anglin was married first to Charles Antney Fairman and they had Clara Josephine who was born in 1886 and another child who died as an infant. After the death of Charley Fairman about 1888, Emma married "Joe" Wallace. For almost 18 years I was told this man's name was Joe Wallace and he was listed by that name in the 1870 Census. However, I have only today found that his real name may have been Edward Hutson Lafayette Wallace--which is what is father's name was! It is no wonder I was not able to find him in census.
Clara Josephine Fairman was first married to Henry Jones and had two children. Then she married in 1910 in Beckham Co., OK to Columbus Marion Tilley and had nine children. Columbus Marion Tilley died in 1925 and she then married Jacob Mirtz. Jacob Mirtz had been married prior to his marriage to Clara and one of his sons, John Mirtz, married his step-sister Mary Tilley, daughter of Columbus Marion Tilley.
Joe Wallace, apparently alias Edward Hutson Lafayette Wallace (born in 1860 in Texas) was a first cousin of my great grandmother Rosannah B. McLeland who was born 1859 in Hamilton Co., Texas.
The names of the children of Joe Wallace and Emma Jane Anglin Fairman Wallace listed on a sheet of paper given to me by Mary Tilley Mirtz were: Leach Wallace, Barney Wallace, Joe Wallace, Harry Wallace, Travis Wallace, Marion Wallace, Adrian Wallace, Lucy Wallace and Calvin Wallace.
However, a granddaughter of Joe Wallace's brother, Theophilus Decalb "TD" Wallace said that the oldest boy of Joe's was named Edmund Hutson Lafayette Wallace and his oldest daughter was named Susannah.
I believe that Susannah was Susannah Lucy Wallace who married Alex Thompson. Susanna L. and Alex Thompson were living with Edward H. Wallace and Emma J. Wallace in the 1930 Census in Collingsworth Co., TX. The Thompson's first child was listed as Joe E. Thompson.
Could it be that the child in the list of children given to me by Mary Mirtz called Joe also went by that name rather than the long name Edward Hutson Lafayette Wallace? Makes since--like father, like son.
Does anyone know where Edward Hutson Lafayette Wallace alias Joe Wallace (born 1860) is buried?
I know that Columbus Marion Tilley, his son by the same name, and Clara Fairman Jones Tilley Mirtz are all buried in the Erick Cemetery, Eric, Beckham Co., OK.
Mary Tilley Mirtz was my father's first cousin.
