Hello,
My birth father, my mother's first husband, was named Joseph James Abeyta, born on or about 1943 in Trinidad, Colo. He and my mother divorced in the summer of 1967, before I turned one year of age (I was born October 1966 in Honolulu), and he left, in keeping with her wishes.
I learned two years ago that he died in August 1998. He was a lance corporal in the USMC, enlisted in the early 1960s and was stationed in Hawaii in early 1966, when he and my mother met (her name was Norma), and, ironically, she died a year and a half before he, in January 1997) and brought me into the world. From military records at Ancestry.com, I found out about his death, after which he was buried in a cemetery in Detroit's northern suburbs.
So here is my question: I have long wanted to know more about my father and about his side of the family - I wonder if I have cousins or half-siblings out there. I wonder if his mother possibly is still alive. I had always hoped to meet him someday and was sorely disappointed to learn of his having died.
I would enjoy learning more about and corresponding with any relatives from the Abeyta family, if possible, and meeting them as well. I currently live in Connecticut, where I am a professional, having attended college and professional school here, after growing up in Arkansas.
