Papas, 83, of Fremont will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James' Episcopal Church, St. Luke's Chapel, in Fremont. She died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at her home following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Fremont to James and Adamantea Petrow. She was a 1939 graduate of Fremont High School and a 1943 graduate of Midland Lutheran College. She was an elementary school teacher in Howells for one year, then became office manager for the Petrow Candy Company in Fremont, and later for the White Brokerage Company in Sioux City, Iowa. She married Philip Papas on Feb. 17, 1949, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death. She taught second grade at Clarkson Elementary School in Fremont for 21 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Omaha, St. James' Episcopal Church in Fremont, Arbor Vitae Chapter of Eastern Star, the American Association of University Women, the Fremont Retired Teachers Association, Eagles Auxiliary and St. Catherine's and St. Anne's Guild of St. James' Episcopal Church. She was a Fremont volunteer for membership drives for the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. Survivors include: a sister, Florence Bitzes of Omaha; and three nephews, George Bitzes, James (and wife, Lora) Bitzes and Philip (and wife, Tammy) Bitzes, all of Omaha. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George (Babe) Petrow. The Rev. Ronald L. Wiley will officiate Saturday's service. There will be no visitation. Memorials have been established to St. James' Episcopal Church and St. John's Greek Orthodox Church. Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
