James J. Pirie & Winnifred Foster
Posted by: Gregory Morley (ID *****8870) Date: June 13, 2012 at 12:03:27
  of 11420

I am researching James J. PIRIE and his wife Winnifred FOSTER, of Georgetown, Clear Creek County, Colorado. They are enumerated together in the 1920 federal census. They married 5 Jul 1927 at Georgetown.

James immigrated from Scotland to the U.S. in 1900 and he became a naturalized citizen in 1905. The 14-year "foster-son" enumerated with James in 1920 is my grandfather, Robert E. MORLEY, Sr., born February 1906. Recent DNA testing indicates I am Scottish, originating from the Orkney Islands, and I am attempting to determine if James is my great-grandfather. My great-grandmother did not marry James but she was 4 months pregnant when she married another man who subsequently divorced my great-grandmother after discovering the child was not his own.

The census enumerator misspelled James' name in 1920, PERRY, however PIRIE appears on the Colorado Marriages, 1858-1939 Index, p. 6,785, alongside Winnifred.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Gregory Morley
