Colorado does not have a death index to search, so that makes it difficult. If it were me, I would request a deatrh certificate. They are $15.00, plus $5.00 if year of death is unknown.
Unless your grandfather was a wandering man, I believe he might have spent his last yrs here. With no family, I wouldn't expect an obit. But, you never know.
