Don't know where to start really. Well a recently found cousin had the name of Thomas C. Bowers that had married our mutual ancestor Rose/Rosa Kleen. The name caught my attention because another ancestor of mine had married a Bowers and thought there might be a relation here.
Anyhow, all the time forgetting ANOTHER Bowers in my family tree; from the Dauphin and Perry Co. PA area. Will go into that story later.
Thomas C. Bowers and wife Rose moved to Hotchkiss, Colorado; abt. 1904 - 1905. There is an Edmond A. Bowers on the 1920 census also that I believe to be his brother.
Here is what I have after a few days of internet research with info received from my cousin.
Allen Bowers, b. 9/16/1822 d. 8/15/1899 buried in Swars Prairie Methodist Cemetery. Newton County, MO
married Margaret Chandler, b. 1836 d.1919. (according to
son: Thomas C. Bowers
b. abt 1882, (from census calc.)was in the 1920 Delta Co. Colorado census states his parents were both born in Ohio; and that he was born in Kansas.
I found on an 1870 Henry County, IA census record; Allen Bowers, (birth date would calculate out to abt. 1817)born Ohio with 5 children. It does show wife Margaret as being born in Missouri. One of the 5 children is Edmond age 6; who also appears on the 1920 Delta Co., CO, census as age 55; which would calculate. Also a John - age 4/12. Buried beside Allen Bowers above is a J.S. Bowers - "son of Allen and Margaret" b. 1870 d. 1893. Rose (Kleen) Bowers was reported (from obituary) to be living in "Wyandotte, Indian Territory at the time of her fathers death in 1905.
Too many coincidences. Over the weekend I will TRY to organize this better. and separate what is known and/or proven with what is needing documentation.
FYI - my OTHER Bowers; from a copy of a family bible transcription:
Elizabeth Dietrick(?) Bowers, daughter of John Deitrick Bowers was born in Nova Scotia; April 24th, 1780. In 1787 John and family moved to America settling in the Shippensburg area.
