The following write-up is what I have on this Edwards family and their connection to my Dalton family line. I am looking for any, ANY, information on William O. (?) D. Edwards, the son of this Allan B. Edwards, his mother, Sarilda/Zarilda M. (Dalton) Edwards, first wife of Allan, and the possible descendants of William. Your help is very appreciated. Sarilda Mahul, b: 10 July 1844 Missouri, married: 29 December 1862 Jackson Co., Mo., to Allen B. Edwards, b: Abt 1840 Scott County, Illinois, d: Bef 3 October 1898 Rosita, Custer County, Colorado. Marriage Index: Missouri, 1851-1900. Source: County Court Records, Microfilm Number: 1019759-1019763 Dalton, Serrilda M. Dalton : Edwards, Allen B., Marriage Date: Dec 29,1862, County: Jackson, Gender: Female Sarilda and Allen had one child, William (O. ? D.), born in 1863. According to Military Records of American Civil War Soldiers from Ancestry.com, claiming residence in Leavenworth County, Kansas, Allen enlisted into the Union Army 15 January 1864 serving in Co. H 16th Cav. Reg. Kansas during the Civil War. His enlistment was served in Kansas. He was promoted to full Private 10 September 1864 then to full Blacksmith on 20 September 1864. He held remained a Blacksmith until he was mustered out 6 December 1864. Additional Source: U.S. National Archives, Civil War Muster Rolls microfilm rolls RG109 M253 (database online) Provo, Ut. Ancestry.Com 1999 Box #000542, Extraction #0003, Record #00001685. In 1867 Sarilda and Allen were divorced in Greene County, Missouri. This could be this reason why Sarilda’s mother, Nancy, had custody of Sarilda’s son William and took him to Dade County, Missouri with her and Jasper Newton in 1867. At this point, what happened to Sarilda is unknown. She may have remained in Kansas, living close to her brother William Clark Meredith, remarried and started a new life, or taken the path of her missing siblings. Allen remarried within the next three years to a Louisa Castile or Castill. They are found in the 1870 census of Wyandotte County, Kansas. With Lousia, Allen has three more children: Hannah - b: 1872, Issac - b: 1878, and Jacob - b: 1880. On 25th Sept 1890 Allen B. Edwards aged 54 yrs a resident of the Town of Rosita county of Custer Colorado, filed for that military pension based on physical disabilities. Allen B. Edwards was enrolled on the 15th day of January 1864 in Co. "h" 16th Reg Kansas Cav as a Private of Cpt. C. W. Stubblefield and served at least 90 days and was honorably discharged at Ft. Leavenworth, Ks. on the 6th day of December 1865. When he was discharged Allen was disabled. On the disability affidavit he states: I resided in the following named places: "was born in Scott Co., Ill, when child I went with my father to (looks like ) Pinto Co., Ill and in 1848 we went to Appenosva Co. (Appelsola ?) Iowa, in 1859 I moved to Washington Co., Kansas, in 1860 I went to Fremont Co., Iowa when I enlisted and my occupation was that of a farmer. Since my discharge from said last service on the (can’t tell the date) day of Dec 1865, I have resided 10 years in Delaware City, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, in 1875 went to Wayne Co., Mo. then in 189 I went to Ft. Scott then in 1882. I came to Custer County, Colorado and have been here ever since. Occupation has been Blacksmith and Farmer. Allen also states, “I first enlisted in Co D 5th Mo Mounted Inf was discharged in June 1863 and enlisted again in Jan 1864 in Co. H 16th Kansas Cav. was discharged Dec. 1865. On the Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension it gives his physical features: Age 50 years Height 5 feet 9 inches; complexion, Fair, hair, Dark Brown; eyes Blue. His disability, as shown on these same papers, was: “Erysipelas which settled in his foot and ankle causing stiffness of joints from which he has never recovered and which has disabled him in a very considerable degree from following his occupation of Blacksmith. He claims Pension upon disability from Erysipelas in foot and ankles.” Children of Sarilda and Allen: 1. William (O. ? D.), b: 1863 As stated earlier, Nancy Dalton had custody of her grandson when she and Jasper came to Dade County, Missouri. Nancy gave custody of William to her sister, Elvira Elizabeth (Clark[e]) Grantham while she was living in Dade County, Missouri with her son Jasper Newton Dalton. William remained with the Grantham’s until, at least, the 1870 census. After that he is not listed in the household. A William O. Edwards was found in the Kansas City, Kansas Directory, 1890. His occupation was listed as conductor (train). Could this be William? According to Allen B. Edwards, in his statement about his children on his Military Pension application dated 4 May 1898, “All (Allen’s children, including William) now living”. William would have been about 35 in 1898, it is possible that he might have married and had a family, so there could be descendants still living. Notify Administrator about this message?
