Grace CLOUSE Dixon
I was looking for the parents of a Grace CLOUSE, b 9 May 1897 Putnam Co., TN, d 4 Dec 1900 Los Angeles Co., CA,m 22 Aug 1920 Putnam Co., TN,, Steve DIXON, b 31 Oct 1896 Putnam Co., TN, d 4 May 1972 Los Angeles Co., CA.
A Grace CLOUSE was shown in the 1900 Putnam Co. (Civil Dist. 14), TN, census as the three-year-old dau (b Feb 1897) of a James CLOUSE with wife Mary I have discovered, however, that the census taker was in error: the head of that household was John CLOUSE, not James. In fact, he was John Newton CLOUSE, twin to William Jasper CLOUSE, both of whom I already had in my database.
I still cannot say with certainty that John Newton CLOUSE's dau Grace CLOUSE is the female of the same name whose parents I am searching for, but it is interesting that Grace CLOUSE never appears again after 1900 in John N. CLOUSE's household.
I found in the 1910 Putnam Co., TN ( Civil Dist. 5), census the Grace CLOUSE who later m Steve Dixon living in the household of her grandfather (per the census), Thomas W. OFFICER, and in the 1920 census, same civil district and county, in the household of her uncle (per the census), Bailey OFFICER.
Interestingly, this Grace, with the married name Grace Dixon, was shown in the California Death Index as having had a father whose last name was OFFICER, not CLOUSE, but I have no idea who the informant was, as husband Steve DIXON had died in 1962 and only known child, dau Nora Belle DIXON (perhaps named after Nora Belle CLOUSE, 1876-1899), died in 1944.
The best conjecture I have is that this Grace CLOUSE was connected to the OFFICER family through the marriage of Emily BROWN to Thomas S. CLOUSE; Emily later married Thomas William OFFICER, but I have found no children from that union.
This is a conundrum. Any ideas?
