Greetings Chris,

Actually, stil slaving away on the 2 papers, first to be delivered - October 22nd, second - mid December.

Now! These are old notes but here's what I've got:
1) Robert Clinton signed a petition from inhabitants of Orange County, regarding agricultural production/inspection at Hillsborough in 1769. Now as Hillsborough was founded in 1754, that would probably make him an original settler.
2) William Clinton enlisted in William William's company of Orange County militia in 1776.
3) So! If you've got Matthias (Matthew) in Orange County in 1790 (and no other Clinton family within 50 or 60 miles) (i.e in Moore County) the odds are that Robert was his father (21 years gap in 2 references) and William was his uncle? or brother?? (The latter less likely).
4) Therefore Robert would be the first of your line settled in North Carolina, but where did he come from? Straight from England or Ireland or from elsewhere in the colonies??

Hope this helps,

Best Wishes,
Mark
