Hi Mark
Firstly thanks for your reply.
I was very interested to see someone was going to undertake work on the de Clinton family as I've tried to research it myself but have had to rely mainly on information via the internet which does not appear to be consistant so would be keen to purchase a copy when it eventuates. Can you in the meantime confirm that the de Clintons originated from the Tancarville family who possibly descended from the de Hauteville family? Don't know if that's just a theory as I've not been able to find any concrete proof with credible references.
In answer to your question no I don't know where in Ireland my line came from as my grandfather had died before I really took an interest in geneology. If my information is correct the family would have arrived in the Isle of Man in the early 1700's. The strongest recurring name is John. The first actual record of a Clinton born on the Isle of Man is my great great great grandfather John Clinton born 26 July 1761. His father John Clinton's death is recorded as 8 January 1811 but there is no record of a birth so he may not have been born on the island. There is also a record of a Henry Clinton and it's been speculated he may be the father of John but there is no birth or death record of this individual.
I would appreciate any information you could give if any.
Kind Regards
Rob C
