Mary Ann Clinkenbeard was my wife's great-great grandmother. There seems to have been more that one Mary Clinkenbeard and this has caused a lot of confusion. This Mary Ann was born 4 Nov 1829 in North Middletown, Kentucky. Her parents were Lucas and Harriet Clinkenbeard. Some researchers list Lucas as having a wife named Harriet Strode, others have Harriet Foreman and some have him married first to Strode and then Foreman. My wife has quite a bit of research done by Clinkenbeard family members. No one ever mentions two wives, only a wife named Harriet. No one can confirm that Harriet Strode was the wife of Lucas. I believe that this was one of those genealogy things that got put done by one person and then perpetuated. I believe that Lucas had only one wife and that was Harriet Foreman.
They had three children: Mary Ann, Sarah Elizabeth b. 26 Nov 1831 and Lucinda Lucas b. 77 Jul 1833.
I have a copy of Mary Ann's obituary. It states that she married Rev. James C. House on 13 Aug 1848 by Rev. Elkanah Johnson in Winchester, Kentucky. In 1860 they moved to Grant County Kentucky, where they lived until James died on 12 Nov 1865.
Although left a widow in 1865, in distressing circumstances with the country devastated by the ruins of war, living on a small farm of 50 acres, she succeeded in keeping the family all at home until 1870, when she moved to Clay County, Missouri. She remained there until 1877 when the family moved to Sumner County, Kansas. There she married Thomas Arnett (b. 31 Aug 1817 in Stokes County, North Carolina)
In 1891, they moved to Oklahoma Territory where they resided ever since. Her husband and all except one of her children being at her bedside during her last moments. She died at the community of Paris (no longer in existence), Kingfisher County, Oklahoma Territory and was buried in Harmony Cemetery (located 9 miles southwest of Hennessey). Rev. J.W. Henthorn preached the funeral discourse.
Thomas Arnett died 26 May 1899 In Arkansas City, Crowley County, Kansas.
One of James and Mary Ann's sons was John William House. He was my wife's great grandfather. He married Elizabeth Bell Clark. One of their daughter was Mary Louella House and she married Ralph Elmer Zerger. One of their daughters was Naomi Maxine Zerger and she married Marvin Monroe Shaklee. Their daughter was Marva Lee Shaklee (my wife). If you any comments, thoughts more facts or wish to ask me more questions please do so.
