What is the connection between a Lewis Clinesmith (b. 1834 PA, d. 1893 IL) and other Clinesmiths in Iowa? I find him in the 1870>IA>Black Hawk>Fox>Waterloo census with wife Adeline and 4 daughters. Why is he living there then, under the Clinesmith name? In all other censuses he is listed as Lewis C. Smith, living in Putnam County, IL. His parents were Samuel C. Smith and Sophia (Bear?). Once, in the 1880>IL>Ford>Brenton census, Sophia lists her surname as Clinesmith as she lives with one of her daughters, Sarah A. Henderson. Another son of Samuel and Sophia and a brother to Lewis, Orange Hezekiah C. Smith, lists only one of his sons, Orange S. C. Smith, as born in Iowa in about 1866. To whom in Iowa are these people connected? Thanks for any help,
