FIRST WIFE of Frederick SHEWEY: His first wife is unknown, but what is know is that she was the d/o “Ellen” who md John WASSON in 1819 Rockbridge Co VA. What is perplexing here is that the marriage bond to John WASSON was signed by Wm TILL, brother and reference to Ellen being the d/o Henry TILL, but she married John WASSON as Ellen/Eleanor TILL. Did she marry a TILL or used her maiden name on the marriage record and not her married name??? When Ellen (Till) WASSON died in 1857 she left a will that named Ellen SHEWEY, John SHEWEY and Elizabeth M. CLINE as grandchildren.
1)Ellen SHEWEY b ca 1818 lived w/ and cared for the children of her ˝ brother William SHEWEY
2)John SHEWEY no further info
3)Elizabeth M. b ca 1815 md John F. CLINE (marriage record not found) lived in Rockbridge Co VA census 1850, 1860, 1870. In 1880 she was with her married dau Mary Susan or Susan Mary and her husband George Richard COPE and a grandson John Finley CLINE age 18 Rockbridge Co VA.
SECOND WIFE of Frederick SHEWEY:
Frederick SSHEWEY & Sarah/Sally CHEW married in 1820 Rockbridge Co VA, and they had (3) known children: John A., William & Delilah.
1)John A. SHEWEY
md/1 Nancy Jane GRIFFIN 1844 Rockbridge Co VA, they had (6) ch Griffin, James A., John, Emmett T., Annie S. & Alice Lee
md/2 Sarah/Sallie PAXTON 1876 Rockbridge Co VA – no issue both still living in 1900
2)William SHEWEY md Rebecca RHEA 1856 Rockbridge Co VA. They had two daus Ida Jane b 1858 & Rebecca b 1859. The mother evidently died during or shortly after childbirth. In 1860 Wm & his ˝ sister Ellen SHEWEY were with the children then ages 7mos & 2yrs. The children continue on with their Aunt Ellen and Wm has either died or “went to Mars”???
3)Delilah SHEWEY md 1856 Rockbridge Co VA William McCOWN. They moved to Gibson Co IN and Delilah appears there on the census records thru 1910. Their name changed to McGOWEN over the years.
Looking for marriage record of Elizabeth M. ?? and John F. CLINE.
Any help appreciated.
