Peqe: Your posting caught my eye because it speaks about the Cline family being people who were short in stature. This fits my Cline family to a "T". All of the menfolks and most of the women, except my Great Aunt Huldah who was about 5'6", were around 5' tall. I am looking for information on my ggrandfather, Robert Francis Cline of Marion County, Arkansas. It is said that he was an orphan and was raised by his aunt and uncle. He married Sarah Elizabeth Rowden of Summit, Marion Co., AR, no date other than late 1800's, but probably after the Civil War. Robert Francis was born 16 Sept 1850 and listed his birthplace as TN on the 1880 census of Marion Co., AR. Sarah Elizabeth Rowden's parents had both migrated from Gibson Co., TN. Her mother Lydia Messick, was born in 1833 in Coffee Co., TN. Sarah's father, Hooper J. Rowden, was born in 1824 in Harlan Co., KY. Robert and Sarah's children were as follows: Daughters: Ida; Hulda; Fronia (?Sophronia?); Effie Jane (my maternal grandmother) b. 2/8/1888, d. 10/15/1978, m. Felix Jasper Baker of Harrison, Boone Co., AR, b. 1888, d. 1939, son of Levi Francis and Mary Ann Whitlock Baker (Levi Francis was the son of Andrew Baker and Polly Hash); Bertha; Pearl. Sons: James (Jim); John and Grover Cleveland (Cleve). Unfortunately I have no dates on any of the siblings except my grandmother and granddad. There is a family story in our family about three Cline brothers working their way across the ocean to America as cabin boys on a ship. My mom thought it was about her grandfather, but the census records clearly show he said he was born in Tennessee. So, I think this story must have been told about some of his forebears. Mom is now 83 and may well have gotten the story garbled in her mind. So, if any of this information clicks with you or if you have an idea where I might continue my search, I would be delighted to hear from you. Mara Fisk New Orleans, LA
