David, your explanantion seems quite plausable. In "Goodspeeds History of Robertson County, Tennessee," it stated that the Clinard family migrated to Tennessee with a group of Germans around 1800. They were probably part that group who came to Robertson County from North Carolina and were most likely of German decent.
My Grandfather is Archie Lee Clinard, and My Great Grandfater was William "Wallace" Clinard. They were born and died in Robertson County, Tennessse.
