I am seeking information on my Clinard family. My family descends from my g-g-grandfather, Jacob Livingston Clinard, born October 1823 in North Carolina, and died April 1900, in Decatur County, Georgia. I cannot find any connection to who his parents were. I found the Clinard family in the 1830 Florida census in the city of Tallahassee (Leon County). Several persons were enumerated in the family, but of course, only the head of household's name is listed. The head of household listed is another person also named Jacob Clinard, with several others listed with him. Jacob Livingston Clinard would have been only seven years old at the time of the 1830 census. There is also a marriage record in Tallahassee in 1830 where a Jacob Clinard married Mary Watson. I have found no other refernce to this person. I can't find an 1840 census record in Florida or Georgia of a Jacob or any Clinard family. Then in 1845 I find tax records in south Georgia counties which lists Jacob Clinard and a Jacob Clinard, Jr. Then, on the 1850 Mortality census in Decatur County, Georgia, a Jacob Clinard is listed as died in April 1850, with his age listed as 40. It appears that there were probably at least three persons named Jacob Clinard together at the same time in 1830 - 1850 records in the north Florida/south Georgia family. My g-g-grandfather, Jacob Livingston Clinard, married Nancy Ann Lambert in Decatur County, Georgia, in December 1848. On the 1850 Decatur County, Georgia census, Jacob (Jake) and Nancy Clinard are counted in a household next to a female named Sarah Clinard. I have no idea what relationship she may be. The only person living in Sarah Clinard's houehold with Sarah is a teenaged daughter named Elizabeth. Sarah and Elizabeth Clinard do not appear in later census records in Decatur County or other counties in the area as far as I can tell. Jacob Livingston Clinard's family appears on all available census records from 1850 until his death in 1900 in Decatur County. I have been able to document my line back to Jacob Livingston Clinard, then things get a little confusing for the next generation back. I believe this family came from the Rowan area of NC. After much "distance" searching of records, I have not been able to prove who his line descended from in the Rowan area. Another possible clue is his middle name - "Livingston". I have found a person named Livingston Clinard in the Rowan area, Forsyth County I believe, in the mid 1800's. Another clue is that Jacob Livingston Clinard named one of his sons Davis H. Clinard. There was another person named Davis Clinard also in the Rowan/Davidson County area of NC. But I have not found a connection as to their relationships. I felt that there may be a connection because of these shared names. But nothing has turned up so far. Thanks for any help that you may provide.
