I am also a descendent of Barbara Clift and Alexander Howell Cooper (1830-1886). Their son, George Washington Cooper, married his Clift 2nd cousin, Nancy (a daughter of Norris Calvin Clift and Charity Brumbelow). G.W. Cooper is my maternal grandmother's grandfather. In addition, my maternal grandfather was also descended from the Clift line (my grandparents were apparently third cousins) through Mary Margaret Clift, another descendant of Joseph Clift. I am just beginning to research my family tree and am interested in any Clift research. My aunt, who has much more information than I do, has a website with some Clift information on it (try the Cooper and Chandler pages on her site, since the Clift page isn't up yet).
