Are you descended from John & Hannah CLIFT CARVER, Thomas & Mary CLIFT CARVER?
While it's tempting to assume that all CLIFTs in the area descended from John & Hannah (d. 1725) CLIFT, we need to rule out other possibilities, e.g., the William WOMBWELL CLIFT who d. an old man in 1737 in Hanover Co. VA, and the CLIFTs who resided in early 1700's MD.
How do you conclude that the Benjamin CLIFT who m. Frances PEAK Feb. 1772 was likely a son of John & Mary BEACH CLIFT? Are not possible parents the Benjamin & Margaret SEBASTIAN CLIFT who m. 1740?
The compilations I've seen list Benjamin CLIFT as the groom who m. Sarah ROGERS Dec. 1772 in St. Paul's Parish. However, you list him as Henry CLIFT.
Where would you place the Henry CLIFT who m. Elizabeth SMART Aug. 1772 King Geo Co. VA? Might he not be the Henry "Cleft"(CLIFT) taxed in 1782 & 1785 in Halifax Co. VA w/large family?
Nothing explains the birth dates of John CLIFT (May 1742) & brother William CLIFT (Oct. 1742), so I now list both dates w/??
There is a John CLIFT, husband of Anne, who d. King Geo. Co. VA leaving a will dated Oct. 1795, probated Sept. 1799. He was apparently the John CLIFT who m. Mary BEACH, from the children's names. The ch. look to be from at least 2 sets, namely William, Benjamin, Robert, Mary (wife of Isaac CALL) Hannah (wife of Reuben CARVER) & minors John, Uley, James, Milly (the Mildred CLIFT who m. John SHROPSHIRE Dec. 1809 King Geo. Co. VA), Peggy (the Margaret CLIFT who m. James PECK Feb. 1802, King Geo. Co. VA).
In 1780 or 1783, John & Jemima ARNOLD CLIFT evidently resided in Caroline Co. VA. There is a King Geo. Co. VA deed dated Nov. 2 1780/3, for 50 acres in Hanover Parish, King Geo. Co., sold by John Wren to John CLIFT of Caroline Co. The deed replaces the defective deed when Mary ARNOT (ARNOLD) "the elder" bought the land for Jemima ARNOT, now Jemima CLIFT, John CLIFT's wife. The deed was witnessed by Joseph (X) CLIFT.
