Thanks for the information.

I live in near to Dorchester, Dorset, which is more or less in the centre of the south coast of England. Wolverhampton and Walsall are about three and a half hours motoring from here. Scrutiny of the census material is obviously most easily done in person, at the place where it is kept. So I am planning a visit to relatives still living there in the fairly near future. Please give me details of any investigation I might make on your behalf.

I understand that all the census data is currently being keyed (by prisoners!) and will be made available via the internet at some time in the not too distant future.

You may be interested to know that my son Nic has property in Hervey Bay. He bought it a few years ago, when he was working (9 years) in Mount Isa, for MIM. The company then posted him to their plant in Duisberg (Germany). He moved on from there to Lens (France) and is now in Melbourne. His oldest daughter, Victoria Clift (21) is currently in her third year reading psychology at James Cook University, Townsville. She back-packs to Hervey Bay quite often to visit friends; indeed was there a few days ago.

Small world ...

Cheers,

Phil Clift.
