I am the 3rd great granddaughter of Col. William Clift from Hamilton Co. Tennessee. The answer to your question is yes! The Clift's from Mass, and the Clift's from MD are related. I have lots of old documents and our lineage goes all the way back to William Clift from Marshfield Mass. who married Lydia Wills from Scituate Mass. They are the parents of Joseph Clift b. 1712 d. 1766 who married Mary Noble and the grandparents of Mark Clift b. 1741 and Joseph Clift b. 1740 d. 1790 who married Mary Edgell b. 1755. James Clift born of Joseph and Mary Edgel Clift was born 1772 and died 1854. He married Alice Hitchcock a niece of Benjamin Franklin. Her mother was Benjamin Franklin's sister. I come from their son Col. William Clift b.1795 d.1886. He married Nancy Erwin Brooks. Col. William Clift was my 3rd great grandfather. I have more info of just about the entire family. I hope this has helped you some. If you want to you can E-mail me at Jules96@excite.com
