Do you have any brothers for George Clewis? I am tracking J. A. "Augustus" Clewis, b. 1840 in NC, migrated to Texas with wife, Mary Varnham. Their children were: William H. "Willie" Clewis (b. abt 1867 in NC); Molly J. Clewis (b. abt. 1869 in NC); Fannie Clewis (b. abt 1875 in TX); Susan Clewis (b. 1878 in TX); Richard Clewis (b. 4/1880 in TX); Stella Clewis; May Clewis; Oscar Clewis; Charles Clewis; Monroe Clewis.

As you can see, they migrated sometime between 1869 and 1875. They lived in Gonzales County, Tx. There was also a J. C. Clewis living in the county at the same time.

Does the naming pattern match anything in your family?
