Hello Lynne.

I am researching my family who are CLOUDERS. Whilst trying to find where they came from I received a bit of information that might be of interest to the CLEWER family.
I was informed that the name CLOUDER was from the name CLEWER.
They were a family of swordmakers who arrived in England from Solingen, Germany. I'm sorry I have forgotten the year. But they went to Shotley Bridge, Durham. When they arrived in England the name was changed to Clouder. Could this possibly be of any use in your research. Could be a starting point of where to look for the surname origin.

Hope I have helped in a small way.
SUE.
