Emma, there are at least two and may even be three branches of Clevelands, all from England. Although it has not been proved as yet, it is believed by most Cleveland researchers that they all desend from Thorkil de Clieveland who lived in York before1099 where later the Doomsday Book lists his family's estates..
Moses Cleveland and Ann Winn are is the ancestors of Stephen Grover Cleveland. They of course are the ones who settled in CN. The other branch, according to early colonial VA parish church records desend from a Roger Cleveland & wife Dorcas (___), & his brother John, wife unknown.. There are many missing links in this line, but Moses has been pretty well documented, and most of his line is correct..
I, sad to say, am from the one with all the missing links.
